Whether a generator set stays reliable over the long term depends largely on routine maintenance. These are the six points our service engineers see most often on site.
- Engine oil and filters:Change the engine oil, oil filter and fuel filter according to running hours; shorten the interval in dusty environments.
- Cooling system:Check coolant level and concentration, and clear dust from the radiator fins to avoid high-temperature shutdowns.
- Battery:Keep the float voltage correct and the terminals clean; charge standby sets regularly.
- Air filter:Blockages cause black smoke and power loss — replace according to the indicator or the service interval.
- Test running:Run standby sets on load once a month to confirm starting, voltage, frequency, coolant temperature and oil pressure.
- Service records:Record running hours and maintenance work in full so the next service can be planned and traced.
